Volkswagen's June Sales Best in 28 Years - Passat Sets All-Time Record, Best Jetta June
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., July 3 Volkswagen of America, Inc. today reported its best June sales since 1973. In the month just completed, Volkswagen sold 34,375 cars in the U.S., a 2.9 percent increase over last year's June sales of 33,410. At the year's mid-way point, Volkswagen has sold 173,026 versus last year's record pace of 179,651. June represented another record-setting month for Volkswagen's new Passat sedan and wagon that went on sale this past spring as an updated model. The Passat, which remains the country's top-selling German midsize car, enjoyed sales of 8,868, versus 2000's mark of 8,351, an increase of 6.2 percent. The German-automaker's popular Jetta sedan and wagon established a June sales record with 13,703 sold versus 13,348 the year previous, an increase of 2.7 percent. Volkswagen continues to be the number-one European brand sold in America.
