Mitsubishi Motors Reports Second-Best First-Half in History; June Sales Led by Eclipse Spyder and Diamante

CYPRESS, Calif., July 3 Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America,
Inc. (MMSA) today reported June sales of 23,698 units, driving the auto maker
to its second-best first-half in company history with total year-to-date sales
of 155,230.
"We're excited about our growth opportunities in the second half of 2001,"
said President and COO Pierre Gagnon. "As the all-new Mitsubishi Lancer
arrives at showrooms in August, we're poised to gain market share and meet our
projected targets for the year."
Dealer orders for the Lancer are running ahead of projections, signaling
pent-up demand for the stylish new sedan. In addition, restyled versions of
the Galant and Diamante will begin arriving in dealer showrooms later this
summer.
"In the first six months of this year, we came very close to matching the
record-breaking first half of last year -- when we had two new products
driving additional sales," said Gagnon. "With the addition of the Lancer and
improvements to the Galant and Diamante, we're looking forward to a strong
second half in 2001."
