Crowley to Operate a Marine Terminal for Ford's Amazon Complex in Bahia, Brazil
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., July 5 Crowley Logistics Inc. has been selected by Ford Motor Company Brasil Ltda. to operate a marine terminal dedicated to Ford's new Amazon manufacturing complex in Bahia, Brazil. Crowley will also assist Ford in overseeing the port development during the construction phase to ensure that the facility meets both Crowley and Ford's high quality standards. Terminal operations are scheduled to begin in early 2002. The Ponta da Laje Terminal, located in Aratu Bay, Bahia, will primarily handle all of Ford's inbound vehicles to Brazil and outbound vehicles assembled at Ford's new Amazon plant. Crowley's scope of services will include operations design, planning and implementation, as well as terminal operations management. Functions Crowley will perform include vehicle handling, staging, port security, yard operations, pre-delivery inspection, vehicle damage repair and port administration.
