LXE Introduces the VX1/VX2 Series Of Rugged Vehicle-Mounted Computers

New VX1/VX2 Series Offers Many New Design Enhancements, Intel 486-Based
Systems Architecture, and an IP66 Environmental Rating

ATLANTA, July 5 LXE Inc., a leader in the design and
manufacture of wireless products and solutions that improve the productivity,
control, and accuracy of supply-chain management and logistics, today
announced the availability of its new VX1/VX2 series of rugged vehicle-mounted
computers. The VX1/VX2 series is the latest in LXE's advanced line of rugged
vehicle-mounted wireless computers offering many design enhancements over its
successful 1380/1390 line of mobile computers. Innovative new keyboard and
bracket designs, increased radio communications versatility, Intel(R) 486
architecture, and configuration flexibility for a broad range of mobile
computing applications make these some of the most advanced wireless computers
on the market.
Manufactured with high impact-resistant casings of black
polycarbonate/polyester blended plastic and cast aluminum, the VX1 and VX2
have enclosure ratings of IP66 and are designed to perform in the most
demanding operating conditions, including extreme vibration, heat, cold, dust,
dirt, and rain.
The VX1 is a half-VGA screen computer with an integrated keyboard while
the VX2 is a full-VGA screen computer with a choice of multiple external
keyboards. Both the VX1 and VX2 come standard with high visibility electro-
luminescent displays and vibration dampening vehicle-mounting brackets, and
large keys for gloved hand operation. The VX1 keyboards can be ordered with
ABCD or QWERTY Keypad configurations, and additional IBM(R) emulation specific
overlays are available for the QWERTY layout.
    The VX1/VX2's Intel(R) 486SX ULP processor and ROM-DOS(R) 6.22 operating
system increase operating speed and allow the ability to use standard DOS
applications and existing software development tools to simplify the
application development process. The VX1 and VX2 will easily integrate into
all existing LXE installations and support 900Mhz and 2.4Ghz (802.11b) PCMCIA
radio cards and terminal emulation standards including ANSI, 5250, 3270, LDS,
TN3270, and TN5250. The VX1/VX2 Vehicle-Mounted Computers provide reliable
performance and allow customers to run many of today's high-performance
advanced software applications crucial to the supply-chain management
environment.
