Collins & Aikman Announces New Product Management Team

    TROY, Mich., July 6 Collins & Aikman Corporation
today announced the appointment of a new product marketing
management team.  This team will facilitate the speed to market of innovative
products/processes and better serve the future product needs of its global
customers.  The promotions are: Hal Rogers to Vice President of Product
Marketing Management; Steve Sehmer to Director of Product Management,
Accessory Mats & Acoustics; Frank Olejniczak to Director of Product
Management, Plastics; and, Gene Turbeville to Director of Product Management,
U.S. and Canadian Carpet & Acoustics.  The appointments, which further
solidify Collins & Aikman's marketing and product development capabilities,
are effective immediately.
    Hal Rogers, Vice President of Product Marketing Management will be
responsible for overseeing product management activities designed to develop
products/processes that meet the future needs of customers.  Activities will
include interface between the advanced sales and research and development
teams, market analysis and management of the cost/quote system across product
lines.  Rogers, who was previously Vice President of Operations for the
Company's U.S. Carpet group, has been with Collins & Aikman since 1986.
Rogers holds a bachelor's of science degree in business administration from
Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C., and an MBA from Winthrop
University in Rock Hill, S.C.
    Reporting to Rogers are several Directors of Product Management.  The
Directors will work closely with the operations, sales, and product
development teams, serving as general business managers for their product
areas.  Each will serve as a link between advanced sales, product development
and manufacturing, provide comprehensive market analysis, manage the
cost/quote system, as well as present strategic input for and approve all new
business quotations.  The product management directors are as follows:

    *  Steve Sehmer, Director of Product Management, Accessory Mats &
Acoustics, joined C&A in 1997 and most recently held the position of Product
Manager for the Company's Accessory Mats group.  He will maintain
responsibility for sales/program management activities for international
accessory mat customers, as well as all product engineering activities within
the accessory mats group.  He holds a B.B.A. in both Marketing and Management
from Northwood University in Midland, Mich.  Prior to joining Collins &
Aikman, Sehmer served as Regional Sales Manager Central U.S. & Canada for
American Sunroof Company, Inc. of Southgate, Mich.
    *  Frank Olejniczak, Director of Product Management for the Plastics
group, joined Collins & Aikman in 1997 and previously served as Program
Manager for the Company's General Motors Business Unit.  Prior to joining
Collins & Aikman, Olejniczak was a program manager for First Technology Safety
Systems of Plymouth, Mich.  He holds a bachelor's of science in mechanical
engineering from Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich.
    *  Gene Turbeville, Director of Product Management, U.S. and Canadian
Carpet & Acoustics, previously served as Product Manager-U.S. and Canadian
Carpet.  He joined Collins & Aikman in 1991 and has served in a number of
progressively responsible positions in the areas of Process Engineering,
Quality and Program Management for the Company's Carpet & Acoustics and
Fabrics groups.  Turbeville holds a bachelor's of science degree in
manufacturing engineering from The University of North Carolina-Charlotte.

    Rob Harper, Director of Product and Program Management for the Fabrics
group, as previously announced, will serve in the same role, but will have
additional responsibility for program management within the Fabrics group.
