Skuza Takes Fourth

POMONA, Calif. (July 5, 2001) - Dean Skuza blistered the historic Pomona
Raceway quarter mile to collect the fourth position during the first round
of qualifying for Saturday's Pep Boys 50th Anniversary NHRA Nationals.

Skuza, after suffering a mechanical woe in round one, gathered his car up
and clicked off a solid 4.879-second lap at 306.33 mph.

"We're real happy with that effort," said Skuza, who already has two
number-one qualifiers this season. "We weren't able to get a lot of data on
that last run because we broke. The track conditions are pretty good, even
though it is hot out there."

Osborne Collects 10th
Teammate Alderman Grabs 13th

Mopar Parts Dodge R/T Pro Stock teammates Mark Osborne and Darrell Alderman
each garnered qualifying positions after the first day of activity at Pomona
Raceway.

Osborne took his Dodge R/T to a 6.990-second elapsed time at 197.22 mph,
managing the 10th qualifying position.

"It wasn't what we wanted, but we'll take it," Osborne said. "At least I'm
in the show. We should be able to pick it up tomorrow night and have a nice
slot for eliminations."

Alderman, a three-time Winston Pro Stock World Champion, clocked a
7.001-second lap at 197.77 mph to nab the 13th slot.

"It's not running as well on the top end," Alderman said. "We have figured
out the clutch problems, but we're still not where we want to be. We'll see
if we can improve tomorrow. We have a good baseline, so we should."

Morgan Barely In

Larry Morgan drove his Dodge Motorsports R/T Pro Stock entry to the
16th-qualifying position. The Newark, Ohio resident posted a 7.028-second
lap at 196.39 mph during the second qualifying session, improving on a
7.056-second lap in round one.

"There's something wrong with the car," Morgan said. "We might have an
electrical problem and its hurting our top-end speeds. If it was a power
problem, I could see it. But we have enough horsepower in this car. It's
just frustrating."
