RAUDMAN OUTQUALIFIES THE FIELD AGAIN
Rancho Santa Margarita, California (July 3, 2001) - Craig Raudman, driver of
Dave Reed Racing's #2 Yerf-dog Fun Karts/ITPS/Kingston Chevrolet in the
Featherlite Southwest Series, NASCAR Touring and NASCAR Winston West Series,
finished in fourth place after setting fast time for the sixth time this
season in last Saturday's Community Recycling 150 at Mesa Marin Raceway,
Bakersfield, Calif.
Raudman's record-setting streak of five consecutive Bud Pole Awards was
interrupted by just one event. This weekend, however, Raudman clearly showed
that he and the team meant to get back to the business of putting fast cars
on the track. He won his sixth Bud Pole Award this season with a qualifying
lap of 18.422 around the half-mile oval.
Raudman led the first 31 laps of the event, then began to experience
mechanical problems, which did not cause any major problems, but made him
grateful for a fourth place finish.
"I have to say that this team has done an incredible job of turning out fast
cars," said Raudman. "It makes my job really fun, and I can't wait to get
out on the track."
Raudman overtook the lead in the series' points race, which was expected
following M.K. Kanke's accident two weeks ago at Sears Point. Kanke had an
easy lead going into the Sears Point event. However, his injuries were
serious enough to cut his season short, at least for the next few events.
"Right now, I want to focus on winning races," noted Raudman. "I want to win
every time we race. The team and I focus on putting the fastest car we can
on the track every time we go out. When you race for a championship, you do
things differently and not always for the better. We're going to focus on
each race individually, and do the best we possibly can."
