Seiko Instruments Thermal Printers Selected for Tokheim Fuel Dispensers

TORRANCE, Calif.--July 5, 2001--Seiko Instruments USA Inc., Micro Printer Division has formed an alliance with Tokheim Corp., the world's largest independent designer and manufacturer of electronic and mechanical fuel dispensers, to incorporate the new Seiko Instruments PSA-60 thermal printing subassembly into a broad line of Tokheim dispensers worldwide.
The Seiko Instruments receipt printer with graphics printing capability is used exclusively in Tokheim's Premier iQ electronic dispenser, as well as the new Harmony dispenser slated for installation in many of the BP (British Petroleum) gas stations located throughout the United States over the next several years. The printer is also used in the Tokheim Premier C dispenser.
The PSA-60 is specially designed for optimum durability to withstand severe weather conditions including heat, humidity, water and cold. It also provides excellent print quality and jam-free performance to significantly reduce receipt-printing problems for Tokheim.
"The Seiko Instruments PSA-60 printer subassembly was selected for our fuel dispensers because of its jam-free operation and outstanding quality," said Jim Gavin, Manager of Marketing and Business Development for Tokheim Corp. "We wanted a unit we could rely on to perform consistently under any type of weather condition."
The PSA-60 features a swivel-out paper spindle arm, which allows for easy paper loading, eliminating problems associated with paper jamming. And the paper roll can be quickly reloaded by the gas station attendant with one hand and without tools, a primary design requirement from Tokheim.
Incorporating printer mechanism, interface board, auto paper cutter and bar code capability into a single, self-contained subassembly package, the PSA-60 utilizes Seiko Instruments' proven LTP-2000 printer mechanism to deliver a print resolution of 8 dots/mm, with print speeds of up to 60 mm per second. Measuring 5.0-inch x 5.0-inch x 14.5-inch (W x D x H), the fuel dispenser printer features several paper output widths, including 2 inches, 3 inches and 4 inches.
"Our relationship with Tokheim is an excellent example of how our design engineers can work with a customer to solve unique problems," said Bob Falco, Director of Marketing for Seiko Instruments Micro Printer Division.
