AAA Selects Vignette Enterprise Application Portal; AAA Taps Vignette Packaged Application for Redesign and Management of Rapidly Growing Intranet

AUSTIN, Texas & HEATHROW, Fla.--July 3, 2001-- Vignette Corp. , the leading provider of customer-driven Internet applications, today announced that AAA has selected the recently announced Vignette(R) Enterprise Application Portal as the foundation for its ambitious intranet redesign project.
The AAA intranet will be completely redesigned using Vignette Enterprise Application Portal (VEAP) to become the association's primary business-to-business tool. The newly designed site, known internally as AAA Information Clearinghouse, will leverage the knowledge and content management capabilities of VEAP to provide instant access to news and information while streamlining the information-gathering processes.
The new portal is expected to improve communication and collaboration among AAA's 40,000 associates and 81 affiliated clubs. In addition, it is expected that current operational, development and maintenance costs associated with the site will be reduced through use of Vignette's comprehensive, out-of-the-box application.
"Over the last year, AAA associates' use of our intranet has exploded, along with their desire for more content," said Ron Moorehead, managing director of Internet at AAA. "To help our employees better serve AAA's customers, we decided that an easy-to-use packaged application would be crucial in helping us evolve our intranet capabilities. We found many portal solutions out there, but Vignette had the only product that gave us everything we need, both now and for the future."
Until recently, the demands on AAA's intranet were relatively small, with only 900 users and a few hundred static Web pages. But over the past year the site has grown to include more than 10,000 users accessing 8,400 Web pages and at least 12 interactive, database-related applications, demonstrating the need for an enterprise portal solution.
"AAA is an internationally renowned brand recognized throughout North America as providing unmatched services and superior customer care," said Dan J. Lautenbach, senior vice president of Global Sales and Operations at Vignette. "By providing its employees with a world-class intranet and communications tool, AAA will continue to set the standard for building strong customer relationships."
AAA is expected to take advantage of the functions provided off the shelf with the VEAP, including capabilities for content management, user profiles, personalization and collaboration, which will integrate with AAA's application server, BEA WebLogic(R). The decentralized administration structure and configurable interface enabled by the VEAP will give the association more control in managing the site and create a consistent look and feel for AAA's intranet.
