Drivers Look for Lady Luck at Montgomery Motor Speedway
Montgomery, AL - The USAR Hooters ProCup Series, Southern Division prepares to head south, for most teams as the next stop for the series will be at the half mile Montgomery Motor Speedway, in Montgomery AL, for the running of the Miller Lite 200 presented by Food World.
Among the drivers that will be competing will include defending champion Bobby Gill and Shane Huffman, who is currently third in the point standings, along with Steven Christian, who is holding on to fifth place currently in USAR points.
"So far this year has been better than average, we have finished somewhere in the top five at every race this year except one. We would like to be leading the points, not only at the end of the year, but also right now," said the driver of the #16 Lucas Oil Products Chevrolet, who collected his career first win last year at the season finally at the USA International Speedway. "Hopefully our luck will change to where we can visit victory lane a little bit more often."
Even though Christian and the rest of the Willingham crew are looking for a little bit of luck for the championship, Christian explained that having luck on your side is also a good idea when preparing to run a track like Montgomery. "Montgomery is a bumpy, slippery track. They put a few concrete patches around the turns and as a result, the track is rougher on the car and the driver. Being lucky and hoping that you do not have a flat tire is the key to getting around MMS." Somehow Christian managed to sweet talk lady luck as he recorded a second place finish and a fifth place finish at Montgomery.
Another driver who scored lucky finishes last year with at seventh place finish in the first race, and then came back and finished eleventh in the second event at Montgomery is Jabe Jones, driver of the #09 Chevrolet.
"This year we are struggling and hoping that we do not have to use any more provisionals," added Jones. "We are still looking for a sponsor to come on board and show them what we can do for them, because right now we are running from race to race, but hopefully this weekend at Montgomery we can turn things around and have a good showing."
"Montgomery is also one of my favorite tracks, it fits my driving style, I enjoy running it, and last year it was one of our better tracks, not only in the race but also in qualifying."
Practice for the USAR Hooters ProCup Series begins at noon, with drivers competing for the Lance Snacks pole award at 5:30 p.m. followed by an autograph session, then the green flag will fall at 7:30 p.m. to see who has the best luck for 200 laps.
