     Billy Moyer wrote his name into auto racing history books alongside names like Foyt, Unser, Bryan and Hartman when he became one of the few men to win major races on the "Big 3" dirt miles of the midwest as he took the 30-lap main event for UMP late models at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds.
 
     Moyer, who has previous victories at Springfield and the Indiana State Fairgrounds, dominated the main event as he took the lead from Martinsville, Indiana's Don O'Neal on lap 10 and never looked back.  Teammate Shannon Babb of Decatur finished third in the Summernational main event, and set a new one-lap track record in qualifications of 29.700,  121.212 miles per hour.  Fourth was Kevin Gundaker of St. Louis, Missouri.
 
     The race marked the 1st visit to the DuQuoin "Magic Mile" of NASCAR's Ken Schrader in fifteen years.  Schrader has never won at DuQuoin, and Sunday he was denied again, finishing fifth in the main event.
 
     Late model heats were won by Babb, and Jerry Buck of Paragould, Arkansas.
 
     A nice crowd also witnessed some great UMP Modified action, as Jim Sherreck of St. Charles, Missouri took the 20-lap main event in that division, over Minnesota's Ron Jones, Terry Messenger of Robinson, 16 year old Kyle Steffens of St. Charles, Missouri, and Johnny Sullivan.
 
     There were several incidents of wall contact in the modified main, the most serious by Rich Lentz of Herrn, Illinois who hit the third turn wall, but emerged uninjured.  Heats in the modified division were won by Dale Wester, Messenger, Jerry Buck and Sherreck.
 
     Buck's bad luck at DuQuoin continued Sunday, as he had a flat left front on lap 12 while leading the modified main event.  He also had an engine blow late in the going last year during the Oldani Memorial at the DuQuoin State Fair.
 
     The next auto event at DuQuoin is the Ted Horn Memorial 100 for the USAC SIlver Bullet Series on September 2, followed by the Southern Illinois 100 for the ARCA Stock Cars (featuring Ken Schrader) on Labor Day.
