TREMONT, MILLER AND DUZLAK ALL VICTORIOUS AT LEBANON VALLEY

JUNE 30, 2001
WEST LEBANON, NY-The rain held off long enough Saturday night to get in
almost every event. Kenny Tremont Jr. was the winner of the 30-lap modified
feature Saturday night at Lebanon Valley Speedway. Don Miller won the
rain-shortened sportsman feature. Ricky Duzlak took top honors in the 20-lap
pro stock main. COORS LIGHT and SNAP-ON TOOLS brought us all the great
action, including a fantastic fireworks display by "Three Fingers" Mortar-ki
Brown.
David Sanchez had a very impressive run in the modified feature Saturday
night. Sanchez led almost half of the modified feature before Kenny Tremont
Jr. was able to make the pass for the lead. Sanchez continued to run strong
and was rewarded with a fourth place finish. Eddie Marshall was showing his
muscle early and he made his way past Guy Sheldon for third on lap two. Six
caution flags slowed the pace of the first half of the race. The most serious
incident came on lap six when Skippy Fox rolled his car on the frontstretch.
Fox was able to walk away from his mangled racer. The first half of the race
was not kind to Rich Ricci Jr who was involved in two incidents before
halfway. Ricci had to restart from the rear after each incident, but
recovered very nicely to finish seventh.
J.R. Heffner had some problems in the race as well. He got caught up in
an incident on lap four and lost two laps in the pits. Heffner continued on,
but dropped from the event on lap 18. Tremont, Ronnie Johnson and Tim Dwyer
got the fans on their feet as they waged a three-wide battle on several
occasions. Tremont was on a mission however and was able to make his way
passed on his way to the front.
Tremont finished the last three modified features in the runner-up
position. Tonight he was looking to improve on that position by one. Tremont
was able to use the early restart to move up from his 15th starting spot.
Tremont made a power move around the outside of Marshall for second and got
around Sanchez for the lead on lap 13. Tremont opened up a three-quarter
straightaway lead with five laps to go and cruised home for his fourth
victory of season and 91st of his career. One of the fastest cars on the
track in the final stages of the race was Matt Quinn. He was seventh at the
halfway point and worked his way up to third by the finish. Following Tremont
across the line Marshall in second, Quinn third, Sanchez fourth and Larkin
fifth.
Don Miller won his first career sportsman feature Saturday night. Miller
used his front row to grab the lead and never looked back. The rain finally
began to fall as the race approached the halfway point. Just passed the
halfway mark the caution flag came out for the rain. The rain would not stop
and Miller was credited with the win. Jay Casey made the pass for second on
lap eight and finished there. Hawley Smith had a potent racecar and was able
to get up to third by the finish. John Scarborough came home fourth and K.C.
Goewey rounded out the top five.
The Pro Stock drivers had an added bonus in their feature. Auggie's
Wholesalers and Used Cars put up $400 for the race winner. Tom Faxon and
Robbie Speed brought out the first caution as the came together on the
backstretch. Three other cars came together in turn four on the same lap.
Ricky Duzlak borrowed his older brother Bobby's car on Saturday night. A
recent string of bad luck had Ricky starting on the front row and he was
looking to make the most of the opportunity. Ricky would proceed to lead
every lap en-route to victory.
Danny Sanchez made a quick charge into the top five by lap three, but
motor problems ended his night on the very same lap. At the halfway point it
was Duzlak, Tom Brandt, Ed Bachand, Yetman and Paul LaRochelle. Bachand and
Yetman came together in turn four on lap 15 ending Bachand's night. Yetman
made a bid for second with two laps remaining, but Brandt was strong to the
challenge. Ricky became the first repeat winner in the pro stock division
this season. Brandt had a strong runner-up finish in second, Yetman third,
Jim Lagenback fourth and LaRochelle fifth.
Young gun, Dan Blackburn, picked up his first career victory in the
rookie feature. Pure Stock "A" feature winner was Josh Brandt, "C" main
winner was Bob Palmer and Pete Wiegand won the Pure Stock "D". The Pure Stock
"B" was rained out and postponed to next week.
