Los Angeles, CA, and Detroit, MI -Univision Online, Inc., a subsidiary of Univision Communications Inc. and General Motors Corporation today announced the launch of "El Camino Hacia el Exito" (The Road to Success), a scholarship program acknowledging Hispanic high school students and college undergraduates nationwide for their outstanding academic achievement and community service. The program will run for one year, offering four scholarships worth $5,000 each.

Univision.com and GM will jointly select each scholarship recipient. To be eligible for a scholarship, students must meet the following requirements: annual household income must be $50,000 or less, grade point average must be 3.5 or higher, class ranking must be 93rd percentile or higher and the student must be of Hispanic heritage. Community involvement, work experience, extracurricular activities, awards, honor society and statement of goals will also be taken into consideration

Students will have the opportunity to apply for the scholarships by accessing a questionnaire to be posted on the Aventuras del Camino minisite within Univision.com. Two scholarships will be open to high school seniors, and two will be open to college undergraduates. The application for the first scholarship is now available on Univision.com and will be awarded in early October. Students must apply the funds they win toward college tuition.
Currently, GM is sponsoring several content areas on Univision.com, including the Vida Channel (The Lifestyle Channel) and Aventuras Del Camino (Adventures On The Road), a content area featuring automobile related travel content, maintenance and safety tips. GM is also sponsoring interactive features such as an online chat series and the Aventuras message board.
