USF Red Star Receives Awards from Phillips-Van Heusen

    NEWARK, N.J.--June 25, 2001--USF Red Star Inc., a regional carrier unit of USFreightways Corporation, announced today that it has received the "2000 Zone Carrier of the Year" and "2000 Outstanding Customer Service of the Year" awards from Phillips-Van Heusen Corporation (PVH). John Bartolino, Vice President Logistics Services and Kevin Maluchnik, Group Transportation Manager, presented the awards at the PVH 2001 Carrier Conference held recently in Jonesville, NC.
    Maluchnik praised all USF Red Star Customer Service personnel for superior service and made particular mention of the performance of the corporate staff located in the company's Newark, New Jersey headquarters.
    USF Red Star provides deliveries to the PVH retail stores of Geoffrey Beane, Izod, Van-Heusen and G H Bass. Carrier performance is measured on a weekly basis through a rigorous multi-faceted scorecard. As Zone Carrier of the year, USF Red Star scored higher than any other carrier.
