Tony Kanaan and the #55 Hollywood/Mo Nunn Racing Honda-Reynard opened
practice for Sunday's Freightliner/G.I. Joe's 200 today with the 19th- and
26th-fastest times in today's morning and afternoon sessions, respectively.
Kanaan turned a lap of 59.688 seconds (an average of 118.758 mph) over the
scenic 1.969-mile road course here at Portland International Raceway in this
morning's 1-hour, 45-minute session.  He followed that up with a best lap of
59.780 seconds (118.575 mph) in this afternoon's 90-minute session.

Teammate Alex Zanardi and the #66 Pioneer-WorldCom/Mo Nunn Racing
Honda-Reynard was 22nd and 16th, respectively, in today's two sessions.  His
fast time of the day came in the afternoon  -- a 59.279-second (119.677 mph)
lap.  Helio Castroneves was fastest on the day at 58.318 seconds (121.547
mph), followed Christian Fittipaldi at 58.532 seconds (121.103 mph) and
Mauricio Gugelmin at 58.543 seconds (121.080 mph).  The latter three drivers
all turned their fast times in the afternoon.

Practice resumes Saturday morning with qualifying set for 1:45 p.m. local
time (4:45 p.m. EDT).  The CART qualifying show will be broadcast on ESPN2
at 7 p.m. EDT.  Race time Sunday is 1 p.m. local time (4 p.m. EDT) with a
live broadcast set for ESPN.

"What can I say?  I'm not too happy right now.  We tried a lot of different
things in both sessions today and we just haven't figured out the ideal
combination.  I was hoping to get off to a much better start.  I'll have to
see what my 'Uncle Alex' (Zanardi) found this afternoon that moved him up in
the order ... if he'll tell me what it is!  It's very competitive out there.
But that's what we were expecting."
