UC Irvine to Host Lecture on The Future of Automobile Transportation; Toyota Executive to Present Concepts of Sustainable Transportation

IRVINE, Calif.--June 21, 2001--Bill Reinert, national manager of the Advanced Technology Group at Toyota Motor Sales USA, will present a lecture entitled "Next-Generation Car and Transportation Systems" on Tuesday, June 26 beginning at 6 p.m. in the McDonnell Douglas Engineering Auditorium on the UC Irvine campus. The presentation will focus on sustainable transportation.
Congestion on urban roadways has more than doubled in the last 15 years, dramatically reducing air quality and threatening economic stability in urban areas.
Although automakers have developed fuel cells, electric and hybrid vehicles to lessen environmental impact, experts feel more needs to be done. Reinert's talk will focus on some of the alternative solutions, including distributed power and shared vehicle transportation systems.
This lecture is part of the UCI Henry Samueli School of Engineering Distinguished Lecturer Series. The event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited; to reserve a place, call 949/824-1540. UC Irvine campus map can be viewed at www.eng.uci.edu/maps.
