Eaton Highlights Engine Air Management and Powertrain Controls At 2001 Engine Expo

STUTTGART, Germany--June 19, 2001--Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation , will showcase its engine air management and powertrain control technologies at the 2001 Engine Technology International Engine Expo here this week. Both technologies are key factors in the company's senior management intent to focus its automotive resources on fuel economy, safety and environmental impact.
Eaton's variable valve actuation system, which was publicly announced last month as part of a major contract award from General Motors, controls airflow to an engine, permitting directional flow control of mixtures into a cylinder. Additionally, for improved fuel economy and performance it can selectively operate a valve on one of two available valve lifts. The technology is flexible and cost effective when designed into existing engines.
Eaton's transmission control module eliminates multiple connections throughout the powertrain, resulting in less failure than traditional methods. The system will increase fuel efficiencies through optimal shifting and performs in any transmission and powertrain application.
Steven M. Buente, senior vice president and group executive -- Automotive for Eaton said, "It is our goal to create solutions for our customers that effectively respond to the public's demand for improved fuel economy, vehicle emissions and safety systems, via our engine air management, powertrain controls and safety/security systems. We believe Eaton has the technological innovations and related customer services, as exemplified by the products and systems we will display in Stuttgart, to fully support the industry in reducing the future environmental impact of vehicles."
He noted that the company would also feature a number of other recently introduced innovations at the show. Other engine air management products on display this week include Eaton's market-leading engine supercharger, advanced gasoline vapor controls, cylinder head assemblies, innovative valvetrain designs and patented ULV(R) Ultralite engine valves -- a 2001 Automotive News PACE(R) product innovation award finalist. Eaton will also display several powertrain controls including the fluid condition monitor and common rail diesel valves.

Eaton Corporation is a global $8 billion diversified industrial manufacturer that is a leader in fluid power systems; electrical power quality, distribution and control; automotive engine air management and fuel economy; and intelligent truck systems for fuel economy and safety. Eaton's 55,000 employees work in 29 countries on six continents. For more information, visit www.eaton.com.
