Louden, NH weekend racing results

AMA Roadracing: Louden, NH, June 16-17, 2001

2001 AMA/Chevy Trucks U.S. Superbike Championships, Round 5

Torrential rains played havoc with the AMA's roadracing schedule on Sunday at
the New Hampshire International Speedway, one of the oldest racetracks on the
AMA road racing circuit. The Superbike main event was delayed due to the severe
rain conditions present throughout the day. The race was eventually postponed
until Monday.

On Monday, racing action returned to normal. Universal Studios / Honda Racing's
Nicky Hayden got off to a good start, and would go on to charge the 39-lap main
event and finish 4th for the day. "I wanted to get on the box", said Hayden. "My
start was so-so, but I had a break early on in the race when Pascal Picotte ran
wide into Doug Chandler, I was able to get around them both. I battled with
Jamie Hacking for the remainder of the laps, and felt like I could get close in
on Yates if I just had a little more time. All in all it was a great race."

Multi-time AMA Superbike National Champ Miguel Duhamel put in another top ten
performance aboard his Universal Studios / Honda Racing RC51. Duhamel, who
qualified outside of the top ten on Saturday, had a much better showing on race
day. The veteran pulled out all of the stops and challenged the front of the
pack vigorously throughout the 39-lap main to take home 8th place for the day.

Parts Unlimited / PJ1/ Erion Honda Racing's Kurtis Roberts was absent from the
weekend's race activities due to a surgical procedure that was performed on both
arms for compartment syndrome. The condition typically leads to "arm pump"
while racing and results in numbness and loss of strength in the hands. The
surgery was conducted by Arthur Ting, M.D. Roberts hopes to return to racing
later this season.

(Racing note: Round 5 of the Pro Honda Oils 600cc Supersport Pro Oils was a
non-event for all of the factory riders, who chose to sit out Sunday's race when
a wet track turned the historically high-risk venue into a treacherous outing.
Slower, local club riders were the only participants. Therefore, there was no
change in the points standings of the top riders.)
