USAC: Portland Speedway Hosts Midgets Saturday

MESERAULL SCORES 2ND VICTORY IN PERRIS 30-LAPPER
Thomas Meseraull of San Jose, Calif. drove his Independent Construction Special to victory in Saturday night's 30-lap USAC WorldCom Western Midget Car feature event at the Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway, The win was his second in this year's series and boosted him to fifth in the new standings.
The series heads for Portland, Ore. this Saturday night for its first race at the 1/2-mile paved Portland (Ore.) Speedway. The track hosted USAC Supermodified races in 1985 and 1986 but this will be the first USAC Midget Car race there.
Danny Ebberts led the first 14 laps of the Perris race but finished fourth. He still has a 28-point lead over Alex Harris, who was the fastest qualifier and finished fifth. Defending series champion Wally Pankratz was second at Perris, with two-time 2000 race winner Danny Stratton third. Stratton led laps 15-24 before yielding to Meseraull for the final six laps.
