NASCAR WCUP: Chassis Notes, Pocono Raceway

[The following are facts and figures regarding the cars Pontiac teams will be running during this weekend's NASCAR Winston Cup Series event at Pocono Raceway.]

No. 10

Valvoline Grand Prix driver Johnny Benson comes to Pocono this weekend ranked seventh in the NASCAR Winston Cup points after a 12th last week at Michigan. He is running the same chassis this week that he drove to a 20th place finish in the Coke 600 and a seventh earlier this season in Atlanta.

No. 14

Conseco Pontiac driver Ron Hornaday owns one top 10 finish in this, his rookie season (9th, Las Vegas) and is hoping to add to that this weekend at Pocono. The Palmdale, California native is behind the wheel of the same car he competed in at Richmond back in May.

No. 18

This chassis provided defending Winston Cup champion Bobby Labonte with plenty of good times during the 2000 season, including a title-clinching fourth place run at Homestead and a win at the Brickyard 400. Labonte, who swept the 1999 Pocono events, last ran this chassis in The Winston and also raced it at Atlanta in week four.

No. 20

Track record holder Tony Stewart heads into week 15 at Pocono ranked fifth in the Winston Cup point standings. Stewart, who won the pole here last July with a track record speed, is looking for his second win of the season in the same chassis that he drove to a victory last season at Homestead.

No. 27

Duke's Mayonnaise Grand Prix driver Kenny Wallace is hoping to rebound this week after missing last week's race at Michigan. Crew chief Barry Dodson brought the same car that Wallace competed in at California Speedway in late April.

No. 36

M&M's Pontiac driver Ken Schrader, who won three of the four poles at Pocono in 1992 and 1993, posted a strong effort last week at Michigan on the way to a 14th place finish. Schrader also ran well in the Coke 600 and is heading into this weekend's race at Pocono with the same chassis.
