PPG Aerospace Launches Program to Manage Total Window Needs for Airlines
HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--June 15, 2001--PPG Industries' aerospace transparencies business, based in Huntsville, has launched the industry's first global program to supply, distribute and manage windshields and windows for airlines.According to Anthony Stone, global director of aftermarket transparency sales, the Total Services Management program is designed to enhance service while reducing costs.
"Operators want to consolidate their vendor base and eliminate or minimize costs related to aircraft components," Stone said. "PPG designed the Total Services Management program to allow our customers to do exactly that. We can take over responsibility for everything from inventory management to warranty administration to rebuilds and repairs, even those done by third parties. Our goal is to provide airlines with a single source for handling all aspects related to their window needs."
Stone said it is easy for airlines to begin taking advantage of the benefits of Total Services Management.
"We work closely with operators to identify their needs and to determine what modules they would like PPG to manage. We estimate their current costs for windows and map out how they are managed within their operation. We identify stocking locations and inventory levels, and analyze their maintenance practices as well as collect transparency flight data to support reliability analysis.
"With the modules of interest determined, we then submit a technical and commercial proposal, and negotiate a contract. We can even put together a budget and cost plan," Stone said.
Stone noted that within Total Services Management, PPG maintains ownership of inventories, allowing operators to better manage costs.
"We are providing Total Services Management for one customer's fleet of 300 aircraft," Stone said.
"By taking responsibility for windows for operators, PPG is enabling them to focus on their core business and lower total cost of ownership of transparencies."
The world's largest fabricator of aircraft windshields and windows (transparencies), PPG Aerospace is displaying cockpit and passenger-cabin windows and a military canopy at the Paris Air Show June 16 through June 24 at hall 2B, stand H1.
Information about aerospace coatings, sealants and application systems from PRC-DeSoto International, also part of PPG's aerospace business unit, is available at the PPG Aerospace exhibit as well.
