Vikner Named Mack President and CEO
LEHIGH VALLEY, Pa.--June 15, 2001--Mack Trucks, Inc. today announced that Paul L. Vikner of Allentown, Pa., will become president and chief executive officer in early July.Vikner, 51, succeeds Michel Gigou, who will become president and CEO of Volvo Trucks North America (VTNA). Both Mack and VTNA are part of Volvo Global Trucks, one of the world's largest producers of heavy-duty trucks and related components.
Vikner has had a long association with Mack, where he began his trucking industry career in 1972, and held management positions in the company's international division until 1979. He went on to hold a number of management positions with Iveco Trucks of North America, Inc., Isuzu Truck of America, Inc., and American Isuzu Motors, Inc., before returning to Mack in 1995 as senior vice president - sales. In 1996, he was named executive vice president - sales and marketing.
"We will have two very competent, highly motivated people with broad experience of the American truck industry to take charge of our demanding operations in North America, to the benefit of our dealers and customers," said Tryggve Sthen, president of Volvo Global Trucks.
Vikner earned his B.A. degree from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa. He and his wife Sally are the parents of two children, and reside in Allentown.
