US F2000 Suffers Tragic Loss

June 15, 2001FAIRFIELD, N.J. —The U.S. F2000 National Championship Presented by Speedvision is saddened to announce the death of its road course starter, Jean-Guy Courcelles.
Mr. Courcelles passed away early Sunday morning in Montreal, Que., Can. Mr. Courcelles, who had been suffering from cancer, was 61.
Mr. Courcelles had become the official U.S. F2000 starter for non-oval events in 2001, following a new sanction agreement with Grand American Road Racing. Mr. Courcelles had become one of North America’s premier road racing starters over the past ten years. During this period Mr. Courcelles started such series as CART Toyota Atlantic, Dayton Indy Lights, Canadian Formula Ford Championship, Grand-Am Rolex Series, Motorola Cup, Firestone Firehawk Endurance Championship, Players/GM Motorsports Series and the U.S. F2000 National Championship. In addition, Mr. Courcelles was the official starter for the prestigious Formula 1 race in Montreal.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of Jean-Guy’s [Courcelles] passing,” said Dan Andersen, co-owner of the U.S. F2000 National Championship. “The entire U.S. F2000 organization wishes to pass on its deepest condolences to the Courcelles family.”
Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, June 13 at 2:30 p.m., at St-Antoine Church and Cathedral in Longueuil, Quebec. The family requests that donations be made to the Fondation québécoise du cancer.
