i2 and Industrial Business Unit Announces Many Implementations
DETROIT--June 14, 2001--PLANET2001 Automotive--i2 Technologies, Inc. , the leading provider of dynamic value chain and marketplace solutions, today announced that its Automotive and Industrial Business Unit has completed customer implementations with many leading manufacturers and their suppliers, following record sales reported in 2000 for i2's automotive and industrial solutions.i2 made the announcement here today to more than 900 automotive decision makers at PLANET2001 Automotive, the automotive industry's largest value chain and e-business conference.

i2 Go-lives at Major Automotive OEMs: DaimlerChrysler, Toyota and Volkswagen
DaimlerChrysler FastCar project went on-line, linking multidisciplinary platform teams together using i2's collaboration solutions. FastCar is designed to allow DaimlerChrysler and its supplier network to rapidly execute changes to both new and existing products, reduce time-to-market, and save a projected $1 billion in development and new vehicle launch costs.
"The benefit of putting an engineer on-line with the whole supply chain is enormous, not just in terms of finance, but also in quality and speed to market. It completely rewrites the rulebook," said Karenann Terrell, director of the eConnect Platform at DaimlerChrysler.
Europe's largest vehicle producer, Volkswagen Group, recently added capabilities to its supplier marketplace to improve capacity planning with its strategic suppliers. i2 TradeMatrix(TM) software is helping identify capacity shortfalls and avoid bottlenecks and production delays that can cause expedited freight and overtime costs. An early step in the implementation is addressing more than 35 suppliers and 350 of Volkswagen's most critical parts and is already achieving benefits. The capacity collaboration is part of an award-winning initiative to build a global digital marketplace announced in April of last year by Volkswagen.
The "Talon" project at Toyota Motor Sales recently went live. With Talon, Toyota can better manage the demand forecasting process for accessories on all makes and models sold in the United States. Improved forecasting reduces Toyota's inventory carrying requirements and cuts obsolete and scrapped product.
Intelligent Build-to-Order Solution at Caterpillar
Caterpillar's Building Construction Products (BCP) Division recently went on-line with an intelligent build-to-order solution. The new i2-powered solution allows customers to custom order Caterpillar skid steer loaders over the Web via dealer web sites. Customers are offered a personalized web-based experience, in which the system guides them through product configuration and pricing choices. Supply side systems coordinate material flow in the plants, and schedule and slot assembly lines.
