Magnequench Introduces New MQP-S-9-8 Spherical Isotropic Powder

    ANDERSON, Ind.--June 14, 2001--Magnequench Inc.(R) (MQI), a global industry-leading supplier of permanent magnets materials and magnetic systems, is proud to announce its release of a new spherical isotropic powder product MQP(TM)-S-9-8.
    This unique powder product is a result of a three-year joint development effort with Ervin Industries, Inc. (Ann Arbor, MI). MQP(TM)-S-9-8, the first grade of the MQP(TM)-S product line, is now available for customer sampling and is currently available in commercial quantities.
    MQP(TM)-S-9-8 spherical isotropic powder provides exceptional physical properties ideal for major manufacturers of plastic injection molded magnet parts, as well as manufacturers of calendared or extruded flexible magnets. This new line of materials offers significantly different physical characteristics that enable improved flow of polymer bonded compounds, thereby enhancing the ability to make very fine, sharply defined products. Tool and machine life are also extended. With this fine particle-sized material (mean size is approximately 50 micrometers vs. 150 micrometers for current melt spun products) improved dimensional tolerance, excellent thermal stability, resistance to corrosion and better flux uniformity is delivered. In addition, it is possible to mix MQP(TM)-S-9-8 powder with hard-ferrite powders to create hybrid NdFeB products, or with various binders to produce thick and thin film products. The MQP(TM)-S product line will open new markets to higher energy product bonded magnets.
    The permanent magnet market has grown at 10% per year for six decades.
