The UAW and GM join forces and resources

FOR RELEASE: June 11, 2001

The Future Arrives In Groveport

GROVEPORT, OHIO - The UAW and GM join forces and resources to prepare its team for the 21st century. The UAW-GM Center for Human Resources makes tomorrow's technology easily accessible through a unique mobile exhibit, called the Road to Tomorrow Tour, which is set to arrive at the GM Service Parts Operations ACDelco Parts Distribution Center, here, June 12 and 13.

According to Lisa Veneziano, ACDelco PDC manager, "We are very proud to host such an important glimpse into the future of automotive technology."

The Road to Tomorrow Tour is a journey into the future. Using the hottest technologies, visitors will experience a unique, interactive trip down the information superhighway. The highway has many familiar landmarks, such as a service station, drive-in theatre and diner. Each stop features one of the following UAW-GM joint programs.

  • ADAPT - Accommodating DisAbled People in Transition
  • Health and Safety - UAW-GM Health and Safety programs
  • Joint Skill Development and Training - educating and preparing workers through skill development and training
  • Work and Family - balancing the challenges of work and family
  • PEL - Paid Educational Leave
  • Pre-and Post-Retirement- charting the path for a satisfying and financially secure retirement.
  • Quality Network - building customer enthusiasm and product quality
  • Planned Maintenance - applying solutions to extend plant equipment life and improve production quality
  • UAW-GM Motorsports - a racing adventure in America's fastest-growing team sport

The exhibit boasts 19 computers with 17 touch screens, plus two motorsports race simulators. Digital video discs (DVD) present electronic messages, allowing visitors to select the precise information they want. Overview videos entertain and inform passive visitors, while the interactive areas allow the curious to dig deep for details. With special cell phones, UAW-GM workers can make direct on-site, toll-free calls to Joint Program Representatives and get immediate support and assistance.

After its two-day stop here, The Road to Tomorrow Tour will continue its ambitious journey across the United States with stops at other UAW-represented GM facilities.
