ALTA A/S to Manage Supplies to Volkswagen With Production-on-Demand
COPENHAGEN, Denmark--June 13, 2001--ALTA/AS, a leader in the development and implementation of manufacturing event management solutions, will install an advanced manufacturing solution to operate production of the Volkswagen Lupo Brussels site. Volkswagen, one of Europe's largest car manufacturers, expects ALTA's Production-on-Demand solution, PowerB2O(TM), to be installed within two weeks. The solution from ALTA is a consequence of Volkswagen's strategy for increasing the production of the Lupo from 1,000 to 2,000 a day.PowerB2O(TM) will manage the production and delivery of engine harnesses, ensuring the installation of the right harnesses in the right cars at the right time, according to Allan Thisted, Sales and Marketing Director, ALTA A/S. The factory has one assembly line which is tasked with producing wiring harnesses for both the Golf and the Lupo
Fast track implementation to support Belgian production goals
"PowerB2O(TM) creates an entirely new transparency in production," explains Claus Beyer, Project Manager at ALTA. "In the future, all data will be electronic, which increases our opportunities for operating and monitoring the process," says Beyer, who has already been involved in similar projects at Peugeot and Opel.
To meet the demanding two-week schedule, Beyer has assembled a quick response team of ALTA's most qualified automotive experts. In addition to their expertise, the smooth integration of PowerB2O will make it possible for ALTA to get the solution installed quickly. "The flexibility of PowerB2O(TM) is so high that it can be implemented very rapidly in almost any production environment," he notes.
Expanding to help European car manufacturers improve their competitive positions
"We continue our current strategy for growth in Europe," says Tony Larsen, CEO at ALTA. Last year, ALTA received an infusion of US$6 million (DKK 50m) from 3i plc to broaden its worldwide operations, initially focusing on sales. This year, sales in Europe grew significantly, and US growth prompted ALTA to open a subsidiary in Detroit. "We are well on our way to succeeding in becoming a global leading provider of logistic management systems, one of the goals we set last year with 3i plc," explains Larsen.
