June 13, 2001Schrader's Thoughts On Pocono...
"We had a great race at Michigan last weekend. We were strong from the start of the race and we stayed strong all day. Newt made the right calls from the top of the box, but the car was so good that we only made one small adjustment all day. Out pit crew was solid and got us in and out when it counted. Last weekend's run gave us a little head of steam to take to Pocono, and that is exactly what we needed."
Schrader's Pocono Highlights...
The "M&M's"® Pontiac the team will use at Pocono has made only two starts, both this season, but due to the nuances of the two races the team knows how the car will perform in both quick runs and marathon runs. Prior to its Pocono start, this No. 36 "M&M's"® Pontiac ran The Winston Open and the Coca-Cola 600, running solidly in the top 10 during each race.
The "M&M's"® Racing Team is ready for some pole winning performances in qualifying, and what better place than Pocono for "M&M's"® Racing Team driver Ken Schrader. Schrader, a 32-race veteran at Pocono Raceway, has won the pole position at Pocono Raceway five times in his career, leading all Winston Cup drivers in total number of pole positions at the track. Schrader was the quickest car of the weekend in 1989b, 1992a, 1993 (both races) and 1995a.
If sponsors can have a 'home track' on the Winston Cup circuit, Pocono Raceway would mark the spot for "M&M's"® Chocolate Candies. The 2.5-mile triangular track isn't exactly in the company's back yard, but it is little more than an hour northwest of Hackettstown, N.J. Schrader and the "M&M's"® Racing Team made a visit to the plant and national headquarters on Thursday, June 14, to spend time with the M&M/Mars associates.
