Guardian Technologies Merger Update

    CAREFREE, Ariz.--June 12, 2001--Guardian Technologies International, Inc. , announced today that the President of merger candidate Vairex Corporation has been invited by the U.S. Department of Energy to give a presentation on "Alternative Balance of Plant Technologies" at the "Small Fuel Cell Workshop" to be held on June 14, 2001, at DOE Headquarters in Washington, DC.
    This invitation-only conference will feature presentations by the DOE, DOD and industry leaders on critical technologies relating to the commercialization of small fuel cells. Approximately fifty attendees from government and industry are expected to attend this high level session.
    "Balance of Plant", the topic of Mr. Milburn's presentation, refers to the compressors, motors, heat exchangers, plumbing, piping and controls related to the management of the flow of reactant gases through the fuel cell. "These functions, which are critical to the operation of a fuel cell, are the core of the Vairex product line," stated Milburn.
