FT. WORTH After eight races of the 2001 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, Addington Racing and rookie Travis Kvapil, with 1439 of a possible1471 laps completed in the No. 60 Cat Rental Stores Silverado, lead Chevrolet¹s "Like a Rock" Award standings.

The Chevrolet "Like a Rock" Award, a $50,000 winner-take-all contingency award, is designed to recognize the "Longest Lasting Most Dependable" Chevrolet-equipped team in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series completing the most laps of competition during a season.

"Coming into this season completing every lap and getting this award from Chevrolet was our goal," said Kvapil. "The guys on the crew are working hard for it. They¹ve won it the last two years and they pride themselves in making sure the Silverado doesn¹t fall out of any race."

This award was introduced in 1997, and the cash prize will be presented in 2001 for the fifth time at a year-end ceremony following the 24-event NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season.

"The 'Like a Rock Award' recognizes the tremendous effort put forth by not just a driver but an entire team during the course of a complete racing season," said Maria Rohrer, assistant brand manager marketing for Silverado. "The check goes to the owner who puts it all together in a 'most dependable' team.

The Chevy Truck "Like A Rock Award" has been presented four times:

  • 1997: Rich Bickle, No. 17 Sears DieHard Battery/ Darrel Waltrip Racing Chevy C1500
  • 1998: Jay Sauter, No. 3 GM Goodwrench/Richard Childress Racing Chevy C1500
  • 1999: Andy Houston, No. 60 Cat Rental Stores/Addington Racing Chevy Silverado
  • 2000: Andy Houston, No. 60 Cat Rental Stores/Addington Racing Chevy Silverado

Last year, for the second consecutive year the Addington Racing Team with driver Andy Houston walked off with Chevrolet Silverado's check for $50,000 by completing 4,037 laps in the 2000 season. It was not only the highest lap total for a Chevrolet team but also the highest of all competing teams.

Chevrolet has the leading race track record. No other car or truck manufacturer can match the number of NASCAR, NHRA, road-racing and off-road championships that Chevrolet has won. That's because Chevrolet has always worked hard to build performance, style and quality into dependable, long-lasting cars and trucks that go the distance, both on and off the track.
