Visteon Announces Plans to Open New Facility In South
Africa
PORT ELIZABETH, South Africa, June 7 Visteon Corporation
announced plans to open a new facility in Port Elizabeth, South
Africa, which will produce air fuel charge assemblies for the Ford Rocam
engine.
Located approximately eight kilometers from the Ford South Africa Engine
plant, this 1,200-square-meter facility, with expansion capabilities for up to
4,500 square meters, will produce air fuel charge assemblies that comprise a
plastic intake manifold, throttle body, fuel rail, injectors, control systems
sensors, and a wiring harness. The facility will employ up to 50 people to
support planned production volumes.
"Visteon's new Port Elizabeth assembly plant is an example of our
commitment to meeting the needs of our customers," said Tom Burke, Vice
President of Visteon's European Operations. "This operation is an important
expansion of our modularity strategy."
Visteon began construction in November 2000 and the manufacturing team
took occupation of the plant in early April 2001. Tooling and machinery are
expected to be installed and operational by late September, with pre-
production assembly and testing scheduled to take place during the fourth
quarter 2001. In addition to the floor assembly area, the plant will house
test facilities, quality and data control, production engineering, and
Materials Planning and Logistics operations.
"We are very excited about this new plant in South Africa," said Andy
Dealtry, Plant Manager for Visteon's Port Elizabeth facility. "We're part of
a growing industry in this region with a skilled and enthusiastic work force
supporting our commitment to our customers. Visteon is looking forward to
being a strong part of the community in Port Elizabeth."
