STRATTEC Hourly Employees Reject Ratification of Successor
Contract;
Strike Now in Progress
MILWAUKEE, June 7 At a union meeting held yesterday
afternoon, STRATTEC SECURITY CORPORATION's hourly production
workers, represented by PACE Local 7-0232, voted against the ratification of a
successor contract, despite the unanimous endorsement of that contract by PACE
Local 7-0232's bargaining committee. Although the vote was close, a strike
was called for midnight last night, upon the expiration of the current
contract, and is now in progress.
"While we deeply regret the majority vote against what both the company
and union representatives believe to be a fair contract, we are prepared with
a contingency strike protection plan. That plan is now being implemented.
Since this labor action does not involve our assembly facility in Mexico, we
anticipate continuation of shipments to our customers for the foreseeable
future," said John Cahill, president and chief operating officer of STRATTEC.
