Experian National Vehicle Database Joins Elite 'Top 10' Ranking Of World's Largest Databases

Massive database delivers comprehensive automotive information solutions

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. and ORANGE, Calif., June 5 Experian
automotive information services was recently honored with a "Top 10" award in
the Winter Corporation's highly competitive Database Scalability Awards
Program in the category of "Decision Support, Most Rows/Records, Unix Only."
The prestigious award recognizes Experian's National Vehicle Database (NVDB)
as the 10th largest database in the world with its 13.2 billion rows of data.
The automotive industry directly benefits from the NVDB and other core
data assets of Experian. Actionable data, where permissible by the Drivers
Privacy Protection Act, allows recipients to better manage, understand
inventory and identify and locate prospects that are in the market for new and
used vehicles, service, parts and aftermarket products.
"The NVDB is the finely tuned engine that drives our ever-expanding
portfolio of automotive information services," said Ken Kauppila, chief
operating officer and senior vice president of technology for Experian AIS.
"Being named the tenth largest database in the world reinforces Experian's
position -- with our FileOne and INSOURCE databases -- as an industry leader
and innovator in making large databases more responsive and accurate."
The NVDB, which tracks the life cycle of more than 325 million vehicles
nationwide, is the heart of Experian AIS' ability to provide automotive
information solutions to auto manufacturers, auto dealers, financial firms,
auto auctions, insurance companies and marketing agencies. Experian's state-
of-the-art technology and consulting expertise empower companies serving the
automotive industry to better understand existing customers and more
effectively target potential customers.
"Our ability to receive and process the data from over 175 disparate data
sources -- in a 48-hour time period -- differentiates us in a market grown
accustom to actionable data that is months old," said Kauppila. "Our
underlying IBM architecture allowed us to build the foundation for our
continued ability to drive solutions to market."
The annual world-class Winter Corporation Database Scalability Program
recognizes leaders in the technology industry in the Very Large Database
space, also known in the industry as "where the giants walk." "Because of our
drive to become a leader in automotive data provisioning, Experian is now
standing tall among the giants," said Kauppila.
The Experian automotive information services unit offers a complete range
of automotive information solutions to manufacturers, dealers, finance and
insurance companies and marketing agencies. Experian's state-of-the-art
