I-DEAS(R) Freeform enhances product lifecycle processes for better
quality, faster time-to-market
SDRC today announced at the Atlantic Design & Manufacturing Show in New York, NY, I-DEAS(R) Freeform, an integrated, process oriented free-form modeling solution that efficiently links the physical and virtual worlds of complex free-form design, manufacturing and inspection tasks. This release of I-DEAS Freeform, formerly known as Imageware products, will be incorporated into the award-winning mechanical design automation suite, I-DEAS(R).
"I-DEAS Freeform has been key in enabling us to extend our reach beyond 3D solid modeling and look at high-end freeform modeling in a new perspective," said David Narajowski, partner, Modaliti Design. "We have leveraged the additional I-DEAS Freeform capabilities to extend our open part modeling process, direct surface manipulation and real-time feedback; providing us with the necessary functionality to produce quality products with superb time-to-market availability."
"We are pleased with the significant progress we have made in the promise of an integrated solution," said Glenn Wienkoop, president and COO, SDRC. "The integration of Freeform functionality into the I-DEAS product line is critical to providing our customers with a complete product authoring solution. We believe that continued investment in our Freeform technology will further enhance our customers' product lifecycle processes, leading to better quality products and faster time-to-market."
I-DEAS Freeform components include:
-- I-DEAS Freeform Modeler
Provides a flexible environment utilized by artists, designers
and engineers for free-form product design, rapid surfacing,
high-quality surfacing, reverse engineering, computer aided
verification, polygonal modeling, rapid prototyping, Class A
surfacing and surface healing.
-- I-DEAS Freeform Inspection
A sub-set of I-DEAS Freeform Modeler, Inspection is a
versatile and comprehensive part inspection solution for
complete, accurate and rapid inspection of CAD to part or CAD
to tool comparison.
-- I-DEAS Freeform Light
Addresses entry-level reverse engineering and basic rapid
modeling, modification and exploration needs for capturing
design intent.
Notable I-DEAS Freeform user-driven enhancements include:
-- Icon layout and menu structure consistent with I-DEAS
Redesigned icons complement the look and feel of the newly
announced I-DEAS user interface, while the consistent color
scheme, styling, and graphics used makes the icons quickly
recognizable by all users. The addition of a more intuitive
menu system further extends the ease of use for the Freeform
products.
-- New 3D constraint engine
The addition of a 3D constraint solver for curve networks
together with fully associative surfacing tools, such as sweep
and fillet, allows a massive acceleration in productivity when
creating freeform models, from Class A automotive to
feasibility design studies.
-- Extended functionality for curve-based surface development
The addition of many exciting new commands together with
significant additions to existing functions for creating and
manipulating curves and surfaces supports the curve based
workflow of Class A surfacing users.
