UAW Vice President Richard Shoemaker Visits Vehicle Mobility

PONTIAC, Mich., June 5 Designing vehicles with greater
ease of access and mobility is the focus of a joint pilot project to study
vehicle mobility design, initiated by the International Union, UAW and General
Motors. The Paragon Project is designed to help mobility engineers identify
vehicle requirements for specific age and disability groups.
UAW Vice President Richard Shoemaker, Director of the UAW GM Department,
will observe the mobility testing project on Friday, June 8, beginning at 11
a.m. and will give brief remarks at about 11:30 a.m. Throughout the week of
June 4 - June 8 UAW members, retirees, and senior citizens will test General
Motors and other vehicles for accessibility at UAW Local 653, located at 670
East Walton in Pontiac.
