REMINDER/Gas Prices are High -- Commutes are Long -- Want to Test Drive a Solution?; Auto Club to Demonstrate Advanced Technology Vehicles
--Auto Club of Southern CaliforniaWHAT: Since average gas prices have exceeded $2 per gallon, vehicles that are powered by something other than gasoline or use advance technology to increase fuel economy may be of interest to some commuters. As part of its commitment to cleaner air and advancing automotive technology, the Auto Club will demonstrate six alternative fuel and advance technology vehicles the majority of which are now available to California consumers. Each vehicle will be part of a larger, international showcase of 60 advance technology vehicles called the Michelin Challenge Bibendum in the fall. The Auto Club is the technical consultant and official measurements judge for the Bibendum, and will grade each vehicle on handling, acceleration, noise and fuel economy. The vehicles also will race from Los Angeles to Las Vegas in October. WHO: Automobile Club of Southern California engineers and Michelin representatives who will test drive vehicles with reporters and provide background on the viability of these types of vehicles for general consumer use.
