Navigation Technologies SDAL(R) Compiler Software Available For Licensing; Price Reduction Announced For SDAL & NAVTOOLS(R) Software

Licensing Compiler Software Maximizes System Supplier Flexibility

MIAMI, June 4 ITS America (Booth #203) -- Navigation
Technologies Corp. today announced that it will make its SDAL compiler
software available for licensing for the first time. In addition, there will
be a price reduction for its SDAL and NAVTOOLS software, making them more
attractive to system vendors. SDAL Format optimizes organization of data on
media (e.g. DVD, Flash) that is used in navigation systems.
Licensing the SDAL compiler will maximize system suppliers' flexibility by
eliminating the cost to develop or maintain a compiler, and significantly
shortens time-to-market for new entrants or companies considering a switch in
platforms. Licensing the compiler also gives system suppliers the ability to
source data from multiple suppliers, allowing greater flexibility in both data
content and data supply. In addition to licensing the SDAL compiler, SDAL
Format data products continue to be available from Navigation Technologies.
"Access to the SDAL compiler is particularly important for companies
looking to launch new platforms because of the reduced cost and time-to-
market, " said John MacLeod, EVP Sales & Marketing, North America & World
Markets, Navigation Technologies. "As the industry continues to shift from
CD-based media to DVD, licensing the SDAL compiler allows companies to
accelerate adoption of a new platform."
"We are very excited about Navigation Technologies' new initiative for
SDAL," said Ken Liu, CEO of InfoGation, which develops software for navigation
systems like Clarion AutoPC(TM) and Joyride(TM). "We believe that this new
strategy will be a major catalyst in providing the tools and functionality the
navigation community has been looking for to build next generation solutions."
For car manufacturers, licensing the SDAL compiler gives them a format for
interchangeable map data across car models, ultimately streamlining map data
inventory and distribution related expenses. It gives system suppliers a more
rapid, cost efficient entry into the market or new platforms. And, combined
with NAVTOOLS, it ultimately makes the availability of seamless navigation and
routing available throughout the industry.
NAVTECH map data in SDAL Format was first made available in March 1998 and
offered the first solution to interchangeable media between navigation systems
created by different manufacturers. System vendors and software developers
who have launched commercial products using SDAL Format include Clarion,
InfoGation, Magellan, Microsoft, MondialCom, Pioneer and Panasonic.
