BorgWarner Managers From 12 Countries Focus on Innovation and Value Creation At Innovation Summit, Worldwide Leadership Meeting in Asheville

ASHEVILLE, N.C., June 4 Asheville goes international this
week when more than 100 of BorgWarner's top managers from the company's
Chicago headquarters and six global business groups will convene here for the
2001 BorgWarner Worldwide Leadership Meeting June 6 - 8.
Executives from the United States, Germany, France, Italy, Great Britain,
Korea, China, Japan, India, Mexico, Canada and Brazil will focus on innovation
and boosting value as the company grows and expands worldwide.
"The Worldwide Leadership Meeting is the annual forum within which we
share the collaborative thinking of our company's top managers from key
business areas and commit to specific goals for the implementation of our
business strategy," said BorgWarner Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
John F. Fiedler. "This week in Asheville, we will select the projects that
will receive development priority and determine areas in which we can improve
our financial performance in pursuit of our growth goals. Growth is key to
our health and survival in today's challenging and rapidly changing auto
industry, and the need for a sharp focus on the future has never been
greater."
The Worldwide Leadership Meeting will feature a presentation by Mr. Tetsuo
Sekiya, President and Chief Executive Officer of BorgWarner's partner in
Japan, NSK Ltd. "We are honored to have Mr. Sekiya share his wisdom with our
managers," said Fiedler. "He has been instrumental in transforming NSK from a
Japanese company into a global organization, and we can all learn from his
experiences." In addition, a BorgWarner Innovation Awards ceremony and dinner
Wednesday will honor 33 BorgWarner employees for their contributions in the
areas of product development, operations excellence and customer excellence.
This year, the Worldwide Leadership Meeting will be preceded by an
Innovation Summit that begins today. The Summit's purpose is to identify
high-potential product areas in powertrain fuel economy, which was identified
by BorgWarner's technical and sales and marketing leadership as the most
promising area for the company's continued growth through technological
innovation. A global, cross-business, cross-functional group of managers,
some of whom will also attend the Worldwide Leadership Meeting, will recommend
concrete product ideas and identify "what's next" on BorgWarner's timeline of
technology milestones.
"Innovation is absolutely integral to our business and to our success on
behalf of our customers," said Fiedler. "It is not a stand-alone activity or
function that can be separated from the jobs we do every day. Thus, we are
linking the Innovation Summit to the Worldwide Leadership Meeting to create a
common level of understanding of the role of innovation in creating value for
our customers and shareholders, and enabling us to reach our goal of
powertrain product leadership."
BorgWarner's local presence includes a BorgWarner Turbo Systems operation
in Asheville, a BorgWarner Cooling Systems facility in nearby Fletcher, North
Carolina, and a BorgWarner TorqTransfer Systems plant in Seneca, South
Carolina. The meeting this week will include plant tours for the group of the
Asheville and Fletcher operations.
