Astris Energi's Fuel Cell-Powered Golf Car Successfully Showcased in U.S.
MISSISSAUGA, Ontario--June 4, 2001--Astris Energi, Inc. (OTC:ASRF), pioneering developer of alkaline fuel cell electric energy systems for small vehicles and homes, reported today that the first U.S. demonstration of its fuel cell-powered golf car last week was extremely successful. The afternoon-long showing occurred as part of a gathering of environmental and alternate-fuel enthusiasts on the Minnesota State Capitol grounds in St. Paul, with many corporate representatives and government officials in attendance.
"We met with an enthusiastic reception for our golf car and the adaptability of its power system for use in a variety of similar small vehicles," Gordon Emerson, Chief Financial Officer and Director of Astris, reported.
The golf car's fuel cell "engine" produces electricity by combining hydrogen gas with oxygen from the air. It is noiseless, odorless and produces no pollutants, since its only by-product is pure water. A larger Astris system, already fully tested in the field, can produce electricity, heat and hot water for an individual home, a motor home or a boat.
Driven easily around the Capitol grounds by a number of company and government officials, the first-of-its-kind vehicle performed perfectly, Mr. Emerson said.
Further announcements on Astris developments in application of alkaline fuel cell technology will be forthcoming, he added.
