Toyota Adds Clark-Atlanta University and Morris Brown College to Its UNCF Scholarship Program

LOS ANGELES, June 4 Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. (TMS)
announced it will add two colleges, Clark-Atlanta University and Morris Brown
College to its College Fund/UNCF scholarship program. Established 13 years
ago as one of Toyota's first diversity initiatives, the Toyota/UNCF
partnership provides 20 African American students with four-year scholarships
of $7,500 per year. To date, 50 Toyota scholars have earned degrees.
"We are grateful for the support that Toyota has agreed to provide through
scholarships to our deserving students," said Dr. Dolores E. Cross, president
of Morris Brown College. "These scholarships will help to relieve the burden
of financial-aid debt that so many of our students experience."
TMS will also increase to eight the number of scholars it supports at
three existing Toyota/UNCF institutions. Gloria Jahn, TMS corporate manager,
corporate affairs, says, "We look forward to building and maintaining long-
standing relationships with these institutions and their students." As a
result of the increase, Dr. Audrey Forbes-Manley, president of Spelman
College; Dr. Oswald P. Bronson, Sr., president of Bethune-Cookman College and
Dr. Walter E. Massey, president of Morehouse College will select four
additional students to receive the $7,500 annual scholarship.
Toyota continues to strengthen its ties with other existing institutions,
including Tuskegee University, which has been a part of the scholarship
program since 1988 and Xavier University, which has been a participating
institution since 1994. So far, both universities have had a combined total
of 17 Toyota/UNCF graduates.
Students participating in the program are given the opportunity to apply
for an internship at TMS headquarters in Torrance, CA during the summer
between their junior and senior year of college, in addition to the $7,500
annual stipend. Of the 50 Toyota scholars who have earned their degrees,
47 have interned at Toyota.
The expansion will increase Toyota's annual scholarships from 20 to a
total of 40, bringing its 13-year investment in the United Negro College Fund
to $2 million.
Toyota has provided more than $126 million over the last nine years in
support of education initiatives, as well as health and human services,
community development, and the arts.

Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. is the marketing, sales distribution and
customer service arm of Toyota in America. Toyota is America's fourth largest
carmaker and manufactures more than one million cars per year in North
America. TMS is a wholly owned subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation.
