Isuzu Rodeo Leads SUV Sales for May; Axiom Sales Increased 50%

CERRITOS, Calif., June 1 American Isuzu Motors Inc. closed
May 2001 retail sales with SUV sales continuing to be led by Rodeo. Sales for
Isuzu's all-time volume SUV were up 25% YTD with 29,225 units.
"We evaluate May as a key selling month given overall market and industry
conditions. While other makes are seeing downturns, Isuzu continues to hold
its own in highly competitive segments," said Duke Hale, Senior Vice
President, COO, SUV.
Contributing to May business were Isuzu's "zero-percent" finance offer and
the continuing value of the company's 10-year / 120,000 mile powertrain
limited warranty.
May retail sales of the all-new Isuzu Axiom jumped an impressive 50 %, the
beneficiary of strong media reports and Isuzu's all-new Joe Isuzu ad campaign.
This newest Isuzu SUV continues to make headway without the support of
incentives.
"Axiom is selling on its design and technical merits. We're exceedingly
optimistic about the Axiom's ability to further define the Isuzu brand in the
US," Hale concluded.
American Isuzu Motors Inc. is the U.S. distributor of Isuzu sport
