Suzuki Posted Best-Ever Sales Gain in May; American Suzuki's New Flagship SUV is on the Rise

    BREA, Calif., June 1 American Suzuki Motor Corporation
posted its best May in the history of the corporation with sales totaling
7,211 vehicles, a 30 percent increase over May 2000.  Suzuki's XL-7, the first
affordable small SUV with a third row of seats, posted 2,939 sales out of
5,496 total SUV sales.
    "Sales are at an all-time high in May with the rising popularity of the
XL-7," said Gary Anderson, vice president of sales.  "It's evident that our
advertising efforts for the XL-7, promoting three rows of seats and rear air
conditioning, have increased nationwide awareness and escalated sales.  Also,
the May introduction of the limited edition model with leather trim has added
to the XL-7's robust sale."
    The Automotive Division of American Suzuki Motor Corporation (ASMC), in
Brea, Calif., was founded in 1985 by Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC).  ASMC
markets automobiles in the United States through a network of more than
400 automotive dealerships in 49 states.
    ASMC's parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation, is a diversified
worldwide manufacturer, selling a variety of vehicles in 191 countries.
Founded in 1920, it is based in Hamamatsu, Japan.
