Acura Posts Seventh Straight Record Setting Month
TORRANCE, Calif., June 1 Acura posted record numbers for
the seventh consecutive month with May sales of 14,584 vehicles, breaking the
previous all-time sales record of 13,906 set in May 1991, and up 19.5 percent
compared to last May.
The May total pushed year-to-date sales for Acura to 69,449 vehicles, up
25.9 percent from last year. As in previous months, May sales were led by
strong demand for the 3.2 TL sedan and the MDX luxury SUV. The 3.2 TL
continues to be the top-selling luxury sedan in the U.S. with May sales of
5,606. Year-to-date sales of the 3.2 TL rose to 29,459, up 4.2 percent over
last year. The MDX, voted North American Truck of the Year for 2001, sold an
impressive 3,806 units, bringing its year-to-date total to 18,228.
"Economic indicators may be a bit soft, but for Acura it continues to be
an all-time record year," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president of
sales. "When the new RSX goes on sale in July, we'll pick up even more
steam."
The all-new 2002 RSX sports coupe, the replacement for the Acura Integra,
debuts in early July.
