Nissan Division Reports May Sales

    GARDENA, Calif., June 1 Along with the overall softening
of U.S. car sales, Nissan Division of Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA)
reported total sales of 57,334 units in May.  Sales for the Sentra continue to
be strong at 9,933 units, up 33.9 percent versus last year.  Altima turned in
sales of 13,374 units and Maxima posted sales of 10,629 units.  May sedan
sales totaled 33,955 units.
    Frontier had sales of 8,818 units while Xterra reported sales of 6,882.
Pathfinder and Quest recorded sales of 4,800 and 2,879 units, respectively,
bringing combined truck sales to 23,379 units for the month.
    Sales of Nissan's North American-produced vehicles accounted for
83 percent of May sales.  Calendar year-to-date sales totaled 287,772 units,
versus 310,129 units in 2000.  Overall Nissan Division reported a 5.6 percent
decrease versus the corresponding month last year.  Combined sales for Nissan
and Infiniti Divisions for May totaled 63,042 units, a 6.9 percent decline
from May 2000.
