Subaru Posts Best May Total Sales Since 1987; - Total Sales Up 2 Percent From 2000 -

    CHERRY HILL, N.J., June 1 Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA)
today announced its sales figures for the month of May, recording a sales
total of 16,041 units, an increase of 2 percent from 2000 totals for the same
period.  This represents the best total May sales for Subaru of America, Inc.
since 1987.
    Subaru Outback, the company's perennial sales leader, was once again the
driving force behind the May results with 5,750 units posted, an increase of
10 percent from May 2000 totals.  Impreza sedan models, including the
recently-launched Impreza WRX, posted sales of 1,588 units, an increase of
255 percent.  Results were also bolstered by strong sales of the Impreza wagon
models, posting sales of 1,509 units.  This marks an 83 percent increase in
total Impreza sales over the same period last year.
    "May was another outstanding month for Subaru," said Subaru of America,
Inc. Executive Vice President, Fred Adcock.  "As anticipated, popularity of
the rally-inspired WRX is increasing rapidly and sales remain strong for the
entire redesigned Impreza line."
