UL Grants DaimlerChrysler ISO 9001:2000
Registration
NORTHBROOK, Ill., June 1 Underwriters Laboratories Inc.
(UL), the leading ISO 9000 registrar based in the United States, announced
today that DaimlerChrysler, a leader in the automotive manufacturing industry,
has earned ISO 9001:2000 registration for its Corporate Quality Division in
Auburn Hills, Mich. DaimlerChrysler is the first automotive manufacturer to
be registered in North America to the latest version of the international
quality standard.
Having a reputation for the quality of its automobile manufacturing,
DaimlerChrysler sought ISO 9001:2000 registration to further its commitment to
quality and its customer base. "The Corporate Quality Division registration
is a great achievement for DaimlerChrysler," says Allan Rae, DaimlerChrysler
senior manager of Corporate Quality in Auburn Hills, Mich. "However, it is
the first among many as DaimlerChrysler continues to expand and improve upon
its quality initiative. UL has become part of the DaimlerChrysler team when
it comes to quality," he adds.
The registration audit was conducted by a team of auditors from UL's
Midwest Region and completed on January 25, 2001. A plaque was presented to
Donald Dees, vice president-Quality for the Chrysler Group, in a ceremony held
at DaimlerChrysler Technology Center in Auburn Hills on April 27 and attended
by members of DaimlerChrysler's quality and manufacturing team, UL's senior
vice president of Global Marketing and Sales, Stuart Paul, as well as UL's
executive team for DaimlerChrysler.
"This ISO 9001:2000 registration is yet another way for DaimlerChryler to
show the automotive industry, as well as their employees and customers that
they have a real commitment to quality," says Stuart Paul, senior vice
president of Global Marketing and Sales at UL. "Like UL, DaimlerChrysler is a
leader in its industry and has a similar mission of safety and high
standards," adds Paul.
UL's Quality Management System Registration program registers facilities
whose quality systems conform to international quality standards such as the
International Organization for Standardization ISO 9000 Series of Standards.
The standards were developed using the principle of British Standard BS 5750,
which itself had been developed based on military quality control standards.
