Goodyear Executive Patricia Kemph to
Retire
AKRON, Ohio, June 1 The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company
announced today that Patricia A. Kemph, 61, assistant secretary, will retire
June 29, after more than 36 years of service.
"Those of us at Goodyear, and in the community, who have had the privilege
of knowing and working with Pat are well acquainted with her outstanding
dedication to the community and directing Goodyear's corporate giving
program," said Samir G. Gibara, chairman and chief executive officer. "For
many years she has been a personification of the company's commitment to
social responsibility and we extend our best wishes for her retirement."
Kemph began her Goodyear career as a stenographer in 1965. Working in
various divisions, she rose through the secretarial ranks and joined the
General Counsel's division in 1981. In 1984, Kemph was elected assistant
secretary of Goodyear and thus became the first woman to serve as an officer
of the company.
"Pat has had a successful career that included organizing Goodyear's
annual shareholders' meetings, helping to guide Goodyear's corporate giving
activities, maintaining relations with community and civic organizations and
chairing the company's political action committee," said C. Thomas Harvie,
senior vice president, general counsel and secretary. "We will all miss her
and we wish her a happy and healthy retirement."
In 1999, Kemph was named one of the Akron YWCA's Women of Professional
Excellence. She received a Distinguished Service Award from the United Way of
Summit County in 1993.
Kemph is a board member of the Akron Automobile Club; the Public Affairs
Council in Washington, D.C.; the Ohio Manufacturers Association; and the
FirstMerit Bank-Akron Community Board. She is a member of the Akron
Roundtable, the Sisler-McFawn Foundation and Leadership Akron.
Her past board activities include the Volunteer Center of Summit County,
the Akron Community Service Center and Urban League, the All-American Soap Box
Derby, the Akron Regional Development Board, the United Way of Summit County,
the Ohio Chamber of Commerce and the Foundation for Public Affairs. Kemph
also has participated in induction activities for the National Inventors Hall
of Fame and special events for the Akron Symphony, Akron Civic Theater and the
Salvation Army.
An Akron native, she is a graduate of Ellet High School and attended
Bowling Green State University and The University of Akron. Kemph and her
husband, Dick, who retired from Goodyear in 1998, plan to remain in the Akron
area.
