Chevrolet Enters Into Sponsorship Agreement With The AVA For Six Major California Beach Volleyball Events In 2001

LOS ANGELES - The Amateur Volleyball Association (AVA), the premier amateur outdoor volleyball association in the United States, announced today that Chevrolet - a division of General Motors, the world's largest automobile manufacturer - will be the presenting sponsor for its 2001 California Crown series and official sponsor of its National Sand Championships.

The AVA's California Crown series has traditionally catered to the upper echelon players within the California market. Capturing what many consider to be the quintessential "California lifestyle," these events embody the fun under the sun attitude for all players from the recreational level through the top competitors. These events feature volleyball and music, and take place on California's most popular beaches.

The AVA California Crown Series presented by Chevrolet will kick off May 19 in Huntington Beach and include stops in Santa Cruz (May 26), a second visit to Huntington Beach (June 30), Santa Monica (July 28) and Santa Barbara (August 11). The National Sand Championships will be held September 7-9 in Santa Barbara.

"We are extremely excited to bring Chevrolet in as a part of our California Crown Events," said Jeffrey R. David, AVA Executive Director. "Our goal is to work hand in hand with Chevrolet to create a lucrative partnership for all parties involved in hopes of ensuring continued support for the AVA and the sport of volleyball."

The California Crown Series helps expand Chevrolet's popular "Extreme Summer Chevrolet" program, which involves Chevrolet having a significant presence at major lifestyle events along the beaches of California throughout the summer. At each event, Chevrolet will provide vehicle displays and interactive games and activities to enjoy, prize giveaways, sweepstakes entries and more. The sweepstakes offers beach-goers a unique chance to win the all-new 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche, the exclusive KROQ-FM (106.7) summer vehicle.

"Chevrolet's partnership with the AVA aligns with our strategy in reaching the young, active consumer that hits the California beaches throughout the summer," said Rick Sitek, assistant marketing manager for Chevrolet in the Western Region. "At the California Crown events we are able to expose beach-goers to our line-up of Chevrolet cars and trucks that are geared for the lifestyle enthusiast in a fun-filled atmosphere."
