FOR RELEASE: May 14, 2001DETROIT - Buick announced today that it has signed second year PGA Tour professional Matt Gogel to a sponsorship agreement. Gogel will wear a Buick hat at all PGA Tour events, appear in Buick advertisements and make appearances on behalf of the company.
Gogel, 30, finished 80th on the PGA Tour money list in 2000 with $604,199. He recorded two top-10 finishes in 2000, including a tie for second place at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-am.
Gogel, who turned pro in 1994, joins Tiger Woods, Ben Crenshaw, David Berganio Jr. and rookie J.J. Henry as Buick touring professionals for 2001.
"Matt Gogel is an outstanding young man and a very talented player, who is just beginning to reach his potential," said Tony Derhake, executive director of golf for Buick. "We are confident that Matt will have an excellent PGA Tour career and will be an asset to the Buick golf program."

Gogel was born in Denver and lives in Mission Hills, Kansas. He was an All-American at the University of Kansas in 1994 and graduated that year with a degree in communications.
Gogel had six career victories on the Buy.com Tour, where he played from 1996 through 1999. He was the first player in Buy.com history to win tournaments in four consecutive years. Gogel earned his PGA Tour card by finishing seventh on the 1999 Buy.com money list ($180,173).
Now in its fifth decade of PGA Tour sponsorship, Buick Motor Division is title-sponsor of four PGA Tour events: The Buick Invitational (February 5-11), Torrey Pines Golf Course, La Jolla, Calif.); the Buick Classic (June 18-24, Westchester Country Club, Harrison, N.Y.); the Buick Open (August 6-12, Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club, Grand Blanc, Mich.); and the Buick Challenge (October 22-28, Callaway Gardens, Pine Mountain, Ga.).
The official car of the PGA Tour since 1984, Buick is also sponsor of ESPN's "Inside the PGA Tour" program and is an official sponsor of the domestic events of the World Golf Championships. Through its four tournaments, which are all televised nationally, Buick has donated more than $19.8 million to local charities since 1982.
