Guangzhou - General Motors announced today that it has begun offering the longest warranty for import vehicles sold in China.
Those who purchase an Opel product and register with GM's Customer Assistant Center receive a comprehensive two-year or 40,000-kilometer warranty. In addition, they receive free scheduled maintenance service.
The new warranty, which is nearly twice as long as warranties offered by other automakers in China, was announced in Guangzhou at the kickoff of a series of 20 nationwide Opel selling events. Potential customers have the opportunity to test drive the full range of Opel products sold in China. They also can obtain comprehensive information about ordering, registration, financing and aftersales services.
"The vehicle buyer in China has a greater number of choices than ever before. Aftersales service has joined quality and product features as key factors in the decision-making process," according to Corey Leung, manager of import sales for GM China.
"GM is committed to offering both the best products and the best service in China," said Mr. Leung. "By providing the longest warranty in the business and convenient service at our network of 36 aftersales service centers throughout China, we are demonstrating our commitment to our customers before and after the sale."
Opel offers a lineup of competitively priced products in China. The top-of-the-line Omega is targeted at business users. The Zafira MPV and Astra sedan are aimed at family and private users. The Vectra, one of China's best-selling imports, has proven popular with single individuals and entrepreneurs.
According to Mr. Leung, Guangdong is one of China's most sophisticated vehicle markets and one of Opel's primary markets in China. GM has sold about 4,000 Vectras in China since its introduction in China two years ago.
Opel is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors. It is one of the oldest automotive brands in the world, with a history of over 100 years. Over the years, Opel has produced over 50 million vehicles and other transportation products.
General Motors, the world's largest vehicle manufacturer, designs, builds and markets cars and trucks worldwide. Founded in 1908, GM today sells its vehicles in about 200 countries. In addition, the company has manufacturing operations in more than 30 countries. In 2000, GM earned $5 billion on sales of $183.3 billion. China has participated in about $2 billion in investment in China.
